Mikhail Phillips

Coach Mikhail is from the beautiful twin island Trinidad and Tobago. From the age of 3, he could be found playing in the streets with kids way above his age. This was where his passion and love for the game grew. At the age of 12, Mikhail's parents enrolled him in Harvard’s Boys Club, where he would begin developing those skills. He would go on to win individual awards such as “Most Improved” and “Most Valuable Player”. In 2004, Mikhail was part of a Woodbrook Government Secondary school team that won the secondary school play-offs in the U12 Division. His ability to man-mark and read the game left him as one of the top wingbacks in his age group. Mikhail would go on to graduate from Woodbrook before migrating to the US.

While in the US, he played for various amateur and semi-pro teams such as Miami Nacional, Sunshine Kickers, Africa United, Miami Aces, and Miami Soccer Academy. Being the only Trinidadian among many different communities, Mikhail has embraced the different cultures and has adapted them to his playing and coaching style. Mikhail believes that in order to be a standout player, you need to be able to read and adapt to your environment quickly. He still plays today with the mission to learn from a player’s perspective.

As for coaching, Mikhail began coaching 3- & 4-year-olds for Aventura Sports' “Soccer Tots” Program during the 2019 season. There he spent the next 7 years coaching Recreation soccer, ranging from groups 6-15 yrs. He would eventually become the site director in 2021, where he managed a program with more than 300 players.  His goal was to develop young players in the fundamentals of the game. Mikhail is also a co-owner and coach of a young adult team called Agape United. Their focus is to enrich the lives of young men in the community through faith and soccer. Mikhail is also a Partnership ambassador for Club Internacional De Futbol (Inter Miami) since 2022. He joined the Weston Select Soccer team in 2025 and looks forward to the amazing opportunity to develop players.

Mikhail is a C License certified from the United States Soccer Federation; he also holds a Bachelor’s in Sport and Recreation Management from FIU. As a lifelong learner, Mikhail plans to become a professional soccer coach. Not just for his own accolades but to inspire, grow, and develop the next generation of soccer players.
