TOM MULROY

Tom Mulroy (born in NY, NY on September 28th 1956) is an American soccer marketing executive, an entrepreneur and a retired American professional footballer.  He currently is the Executive Director of Se Habla Futbol a Traffic Sports Company specializing in soccer grassroots, corporate events and soccer properties.

Executive Soccer Experience

Mr. Mulroy founded and operated a profitable full-service marketing firm specializing in the sport of soccer from 1988 until 2009. Soccer Marketing & Promotions, Inc. known for creating highly visible, soccer-oriented events, SMP’s strength is in the development and implementation of strategic marketing programs as well as a subsidiary company Se Habla Fútbol which was a full-service, bilingual division which enables clients to tap the multibillion-dollar Hispanic market.  Mr. Mulroy’s years of experience in the US soccer industry are second to none. He is an innovative soccer marketer who has created such successful soccer promotions and properties as Copa Latina, “FanZone” and the 96-Mile Olympic Ball Run, among others, from their design to their implementation.

Mr. Mulroy developed an understanding of US soccer’s administration through years of practical experience.  His unique soccer industry experience developed while working closely with his 13 professional clubs’ front offices which ranged from office structure, strategic development of marketing plans, branding and advertising campaigns, ticket sales, hospitality programs, grassroots community relations programs, camps, and clinics.  (1976-1988)

Coaching/Player development

In addition, Tom has earned his USSF (United States Soccer Federation) National “A” coaching license and the NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) National Advanced Diploma.  Mr. Mulroy has practical coaching experience at virtually every level of player development in the United States soccer infrastructure.

Public speaking/Soccer clinician

Mr. Mulroy was hired by the 1994 World Cup Organizing Committee as a consultant.  In addition, he was an official spokesperson for the 1994 World Cup, a member of the USSF Professional Planning Committee and a member of the 1996 Olympic Soccer Games Executive Committee.  Nick-named “Soccer Tom” he served as the Soccer Spokesperson for “Just Say No” International.  He is recognized nationally as one of soccer’s top clinicians, a true ambassador of the sport.  Tom also served as Director of Soccer Educational Programs; an institute devoted to the development of the American youth soccer player. Tom’s soccer demonstration takes him from coast to coast seeing young and old.  His unique ability to control a soccer ball, along with his quick wit, leaves him in a category all by himself when it comes to entertaining any audience.  Mulroy once held the world record for juggling a soccer ball, 12,295 taps on top of the Empire State Building.

Professional Player career

Soccer Tom in action. In 1976, Mr. Mulroy was signed to the Miami Toros as the youngest player of the North American Soccer League. Mulroy’s professional playing career lasted 13 years.  He played on 13 teams in five different leagues including, Major Indoor Soccer League, United Soccer League and American Indoor Soccer Association (1976 – 1988).  Tom professional team achievements include his participation in championship teams with both indoor and outdoor professional soccer teams.  Some of Mr. Mulroy’s personal achievements included being honored by marking “Pele” in a match against the NY Cosmos and receiving his jersey after the match.  Tom was honored by playing for the “Nene” Cubillas farewell game as a member of the world All-Star in Lima, Peru (1989).  Tom was selected to the Major Indoor Soccer League All-Star team (1979).

Youth player career

Tony Johnson Head-Ball Air BattleMulroy grew up playing soccer in metropolitan New York youth clubs including the Clarkstown sports club and in the Blau-Weiss Gottschee youth system (1969 – 1974).  Tom was a member of the first United States Youth National Team participating in the first FIFA/Concacaf youth tournament (1974).  He attended Ulster County Community College where he was a 1974 and 1975 National Junior College All American. In 1993, he was inducted into the NJCAA Hall of Fame and named to the NJCAA “Team of the Century”.
